About Turrucares

Turrucares is a lovely rural town conveniently located near excellent shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and malls, and sits close to a major roadway leading to the Pacific beaches, which are only forty-five minutes away.  The beautiful Rio Grande River meanders gently through the lush vegetation to the west.

The newly completed LDA high performance training and sports center along with numerous top notch soccer fields has made its home in Turrucares.

The whole family will enjoy a day at Tilapia Park.  Here you can go fishing and enjoy your fresh catch prepared in the on-site restaurant.  Be sure to stroll the beautiful grounds surrounded by nature.  It is even pet friendly.

One of the truly wonderful things about Turrucares is that it is now home to the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center.  Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release the wild and sometimes domestic animals that are brought to the center for care.  While there are permanent staff onsite, the center relies heavily on compassionate and hardworking volunteers.

The onsite hospital is staffed by dedicated vets and interns.  There are comfortable living quarters that can house up to sixty volunteers at a time.  The center is home to sloths, monkeys, owls, kinkajous, coatis, exotic birds, and many more species from time to time.  There is an aviary, sloth gardens and monkey cages which are all surrounded by nature in order to allow the animals a place to live as close to their natural habitat as possible as they recover from their wounds.

The center is open to visitors and for tours and events.
