About Orotina

You can find Orotina located in the north region of Costa Rica, just at the foot of the Monte del Aquacate.  This town is found about halfway between the other communities of Quepos and Atenas, west of Alajuela, only an hour's drive west from the capital city of San Jose.  This picturesque agricultural community is known for its amazing wealth of produce.  This spectacular variety of fresh Costa Rica fruits and vegetables is made possible by the excellent year-round weather.  In fact, Orotina is often referred to as the "fruit town", a nickname it has really earned thanks to its noteworthy agricultural output.

Local growers operate numerous small stalls where vegetables and fruits are sold directly to customers.  This allows travelers and locals alike access to the freshest produce that each season has to offer.

March is prime time to visit the area as an annual fruit festival occurs, where people enjoy agricultural lectures, concerts, rides, and of course, fresh produce.

Restaurants catering to both visitors and locals can be found in the town, so this is a perfect opportunity to sample all your favorite traditional dishes and discover some new ones to enjoy.

Additionally, the people of Costa Rica love to dance, so you are sure to find couples taking to the dance floor while others drink and dine.

In Orotina you will find an excellent warm climate and small town atmosphere.

Orotina has opened its doors due to the new highway 27 San Jose - Caldera.  Also, the new international airport is slated to be built sometime in the future just outside the city of Orotina.

Orotina is pretty flat, it is lush and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.  You can drive from Orotina to the beaches around Jaco and the Central Pacific in 45 minutes.  From Orotina it is only 25 minutes to Punta Leona and 35 minutes to Los Suenos with its golf and marina.  The best surfing at Hermosa Beach is only 5 minutes past Jaco.

In the center of town, directly across from the church is a beautiful park.  This park is lush with palms and other interesting mature trees.  It is a popular and safe place for people to gather, relax, or have a fiesta.  Around the park you will find stores, pharmacies and supermarkets.
